Elmer I. Nocheseda of Pateros is a graduate of Economics from the Ateneo de Manila University and holds a Master’s Degree in Management Policy Science from the University of Tsukuba in Ibaraki, Japan. From his weekend passion on Philppine studies, he has published books, magazines and articles. His first book, Palaspas: An Appreciation of the Palm Leaf Art in the Philippines published by the Ateneo Press won four major awards including the National Book Award, the Gintong Aklat Award, and the Cardinal Jaime L. Sin Emerging Author Award. He also wrote a book on Pateros and another one on Taguig.
His fourth book Rara: Art and Tradition of Mat Weaving in the Philippines is the most, if not the only comprehensive survey on banig since the seminal Philippine Mats was published a century ago.
