Behind the project: Curation and preparation for the publication of the Stanley Cabigas Coleoptera Collection at the Entomology Section, Zoology Division of the National Museum of the Philippines, supported by the Museum Foundation of the Philippines.
Acquired during the middle part of 2023 with the aid of Dr. Analyn Cabras, a National Museum of the Philippines Research Associate from the very prolific insect collector Mr. Stanley Cabigas, it represents one of the single most extensive beetle collections by the National Museum since the war.
The collection’s acquisition addresses the urgent need for taxonomic research in the face of ecological changes threatening biodiversity. Dr. Milton Norman Medina (leading expert in Cerambycidae), Mr. Efhrain Lodge Pajota (Pachyrhynchus taxonomy), and both Mr. Daven Jayson Agbas and Mr. Graden Obrial (Metapocyrtus taxonomy) are currently doing excellent work for the direction of Coleopterology in the Philippines.
