Until not so long ago, in one of Manila’s legendary Art Deco buildings from the 1930s, a close-knit group of residents would host a unique party every year. Doors to their apartments were left open for all invited friends to enter freely, not only to partake of food, drink, live music and good company but also to share a creative lifestyle, if only for an evening. They referred to it simply as the “open house” and it became one of the most coveted invitations in the year’s long list of mundane parties.
