An MFPI exclusive this January: Aliwalas Tour of Bohol

The tour has been exclusively organized by Mr. Ino Manalo for the Foundation’s members.

With a background rich in the Philippine art and literary world, Ino has been assistant professor of Art History at the U.P., former Assistant Corporate Secretary of Metrobank Foundation and former Director of the Metropolitan Museum of Manila. These past few years have had Ino Manalo involved with the development of the cultural tourism of the province. He is helping to set up two community walking tours. He now lives in a lovely 1940s house in Baclayon town which is filled with art works from Bohol that he has been collecting since he was a high school student.

For three days and two nights, Ino will guide us to his favorite spots in Bohol. We will depart Manila for Tagbilaran the morning of Friday Jan. 22 and depart Tagbilaran for Manila early afternoon Sunday on Jan. 24. We will be staying at the Amarela Resort. Package details can be found at the lower portion of the email.

Since the Metropolitan Museum’s major exhibit on Bohol in 2003, Ino Manalo has been involved with the development of the cultural tourism of the province. His most recent publication is Sukaran, a documentation of the vernacular domestic architecture of two Bohol towns which he co-authored with Prof. Marianito Luspo.

Saturday, 5 September 2009
2 pm to 5 pm

Organized by the Museum Foundation of the Philippines

The Pasig River is the major artery that runs through the heart of Manila. Long suffering from the effects of pollution and environmental degradation, renewed efforts are underway for its revival as a viable resource Filipinos can be proud of. Learn about its fabled place in history while seeing Metro Manila from a different vantage point aboard an air-conditioned ferry boat as it winds through the now urban towns of Manila, Makati, Mandaluyong, Pasig and Marikina. A rare opportunity will be the brief stopover for a simple merienda at Malacanang Park.

Meeting point will be at 1 pm at the Sanctuario de San Antonio parking lot in McKinley Road, Forbes Park, Makati City. Participants will be brought back by bus to this point at the end of the tour.

For reservations and inquiries, please contact Elvie or Mae at the Museum Foundation of the Philippines office: Tel 404 2685 or 0928 503 9392.

The Grand Tour of the National Museum

Monday, May 11th, 2009

The Grand Tour of the National Museum
with John Silva

Sometimes a painting needs a dash of insight

Works of art are appreciated by their own merits. But Oftentimes a painting or a sculpture has a story that adds to its worth. Or a brushstroke, almost imperceptible, that needs pointing out, and expanding a painting’s dimension.

John L. Silva’s renowned three-hour tour of the National Museum’s paintings and sculpture collection incorporates history, interpretation, and even a little humor.

Get to know the Philippines from as far back as 40,000 years ago through its fascinating archeological artifacts from stone-age tools to exquisite textiles.

Understand the country today with its colonial period collection from Spanish ware to American architechtural influence on the two buildings housing the National Museum.

All tours begin at the rear entrance of the Museum of the Filipino People (formerly the Finance Building) located on Finance Road and fronting Rizal Park. Tour covers two buildings and over 20 galleries.

Come and discover a fascinating Philippine past. It will astound you.

Tours start promptly at 10:00 AM and ends at 1:00 PM.

April 22, 25, 29,
