Decorative Arts Workshop with Ms. Tats Manahan

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

Decorative techniques such as estufado, tisu or intaglio and marbleizing have found contemporary uses. These Ms Tats Rejante Manahan will show in the workshop on Decorative Arts. The workshop will be held at the Tambunting Villonco Hall of the National Museum of the Philippines for three days, March 7, 9, and 12 , 9am – 4pm. A film featuring the work of a Filipino craftsman will be shown. Included is a brief introduction/lecture on the history of decorative arts apart from the hands-on sessions. The fee of Php 5000.00 includes materials. A certificate will be given at the end of the course to those who have successfully completed the workshop.
Ms. Manahan specialized in Stucco Marmorino, Lacca Veneziana, Scagliola at Centro Europeo per Fomazione degli Artigiami in Venice, Italy under Prof Mario Fogliata. She was also mentored by JoAnne Day, foremost American decorative artist in San Francisco and New York. Ms Manahan was part of the team that restored Gota de Leche, a project which received honorable mention by UNESCO for Heritage Conservation in Asia. She is also consultant for the restoration of the façade of the Diocese of Pasig.
This workshop is offered to create awareness that arts and crafts, decorative techniques need not disappear as a new generation learns it and adapts it for more contemporary use/function. This is part of the Lopez Memorial Museum and the Museum Foundation of the Philippines’ series on preserving cultural heritage, which includes practices such as this. This is made possible by the support of Pacific Paints, Inc.
