“Ambagan sa Limbagan: Tulong Para sa PAP Workshop” is a special exhibit and sale of featuring works by established artists and practicing printmakers. It was initiated by Mr. Nestor Jardin, President of the CCP, when the PAP approached the CCP for assistance for the much needed refurbishing of the PAP workshop. The two institutions have long been in partnership for programs geared towards the continued development of printmaking in the country.
The workshop is a space provided by the CCP behind the Folk Arts Theater which houses printmaking facilities and serves as the studio for artists to produce prints. It likewise enables the PAP to conduct educational activities for students, workshops for local artists and to host foreign visiting artists for workshops and collaborative works with Filipino printmakers. With this rare event, the PAP not only seeks to generate resources for the workshop, but also to provide for the guests the opportunity to acquire original artworks at special rates.
The Philippine Association of Printmakers was established in 1968 with the pioneering efforts of Mr. Manuel Rodriguez, Sr. along with its founding members and first officers, Adiel Arevalo, Ivi Avellana, Lamberto Hechanova, Mila Enage, Aurora Calaguas and Imelda Nakpil. It has since become the prime mover of graphic arts in the country. For almost 40 years, the association has geared all efforts towards the promotion of printmaking in the country through its continuous training of members, regular exhibitions, annual competition, outreach workshops and lectures. Over the years, the PAP has hosted a number of exchange programs with visiting artists from Asia, France, Australia and Germany. From its ranks, the Philippines was represented in international exhibitions, competitions, biennales and triennials. In 2001 and 2002 alone, through the Bakat ng Limbag Sining Project sponsored by the NCCA, the PAP has reached more than twenty regions giving free workshops to local artists and mounting print exhibitions at local venues. In 2001, it was conferred the Dangal ng Haraya Lifetime Achievement Award for Cultural Promotions by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.
