The Lopez Memorial Museum, in cooperation with the Museum Foundation of the Philippines, presents the sixth in the series Stories about Preserving Cultural Heritage on July 8, 2-4 pm, at the Lopez Library. Called Pamibyebye, gawiq, lub: Re-discovering Kapampangan Culture, the talk will discuss the distinct Kapampangan culture — food, language, etc — and efforts to preserve it. The proximity of Pampanga to Manila and the Tagalog region, the Mt. Pinatubo eruption and migration of Kapampangans have led to the dilution or, worse, the disappearance of Kapampangan culture. Lord Francis Musni of the Center for Kapampangan Studies will speak on the importance of the Kapampangan culture and the different projects of the center to reinvigorate the culture. Fee is Php50.00 for Museum Foundation members and Php100.00 for non-Museum Foundation members.

Mr. Musni, who has attended courses on museum and cultural heritage management at the University of Sto Tomas’s Heritage Program, is the archivist and consultant on church history and heritage of the Juan D. Nepomuceno Center for Kapampangan Studies. The Center was established by the Holy Angels University in 2002 to preserve, study and promote local history and culture. Its museum, library, research and publication unit, archives and theater have produced magazines, award-winning books, concerts and exhibitions to create more interest in Kapampangan culture.

The Lopez Memorial Museum is at the ground floor, Benpres Building, Exchange Road corner Meralco Avenue, Pasig City. Museum days and hours are Monday-Saturday, 8am-5pm, except holidays. For more information, call 6312417 or email pezseum@skyinet.net.
