Art in the Park
posted on June 12th, 2006On Saturday, June 17, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Museum Foundation of the Philippines and Barangay Bel-Air bring you ART IN THE PARK, patterned after the art fairs of the Royal Society of Art in London and The Rocks Arts and Crafts market in Sydney. To be held at the grassy area in Velasquez Park adjoining the Salcedo Community Market, it is envisioned to be a venue for the sale of paintings, prints, photographs, and sculpture within the affordable threshold of P20,000. Art in the Park aims to attract, through the low prices of the artworks, buyers not necessarily familiar with art scene. Artists will have a chance to display their works in an unusual venue and to a general audience. A percentage of the selling price goes to the Museum Foundation the Philippines.
“Art is for all walks of life,” states Maribel Ongpin, president of the Museum Foundation of the Philippines. “Every person finds their humanity fulfilled in art. The Museum Foundation’s ‘Art in the Park’ project is about this. We are grateful to Barangay Captain Nene Lichauco for recognizing this through her continuous support of art and culture events.”
Art in the Park is spearheaded by Bel-Air Juniors and Museum Foundation members Trickie Lopa and Lisa Periquet, the duo behind the highly successful Salcedo Community Market. To celebrate the market’s upcoming second anniversary, they thought it fitting to launch an endeavor inspired by the vision of community service and conceived along the market’s pioneering spirit in support of Philippine visual art. The Art in the Park logo designed by Pepper Roxas features a little maya bird — a local bird and frequent visitor of parks. The early bird catches the worm — in this case, early risers get the best art!
Art in the Park presents artworks shown in the Drawing Room, Boston Gallery, Liongoren Gallery, Galleria de las Islas, SilverLens, and Art Inday, Sinagtala. Students from the UST School of Fine Arts and L’ Arc en Ciel, members of Ilustrador ng Kabataan and KASIBULAN are participating. Other artists include Lanelle Abueva, Alma Quinto, Emmanuel Garibay, Daniel Coquilla, Alfredo Liongoren, Jeho Bitancor, Jojo Lofranco, Isa Lorenzo, Derek Soriano, Pinky Urmaza, Kiko Escora, Maya Munoz, Winner Jumalon, and Dindon Cordova.
